Breast lifting surgery, or mastopexy, is designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts. There are different types of breast lift procedures, and the choice often depends on the degree of sagging, patient's anatomical structure and the patient's aesthetic goals.
The Primary Types of Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
-
Crescent Lift:
Involves a small incision around the upper half of the areola. This is suitable for cases with minimal sagging. -
Peri-Areolar (Donut) Lift:
Involves a circular incision around the areola. It's suitable for mild to moderate sagging and allows for reshaping of the breast tissue. -
Vertical (Lollipop) Lift:
Combines a peri-areolar incision with a vertical incision down to the breast crease. This is suitable for moderate sagging. -
Inverted-T (Anchor) Lift:
Involves a peri-areolar incision, a vertical incision, and a horizontal incision along the breast crease. This is suitable for significant sagging and provides the most extensive reshaping.
During mastopexy, the surgeon lifts and reshapes the breast tissue, repositions the nipple and areola to a higher position, and removes excess skin. Most commonly muscles are not stretched during a breast lift; instead, the procedure focuses on reshaping the breast tissue and repositioning the nipple-areola complex. The surgeon may adjust the surrounding supportive tissue to achieve the desired lift and contour.
It is essential to consult with a qualified plastic surgeon to determine the most suitable type of breast lift for individual needs and goals. The surgeon will assess factors like breast size, degree of sagging and overall anatomy to recommend the most appropriate technique and incision placement.
